Television

Television advertising is probably the most familiar form of advertising to people. It has the advantage, for companies and services, of a ready-made audience. To do this, however, advertisers need to be strategic. With knowledge of their product and thorough market research they will carefully choose the program, day and time of day when their message can reach the optimum audience. They will then try to ensure that their commercial, in terms of content and style, suits the audience they are appealing to.

Exercise: Watch the following three TV advertisements and answer the questions:

What product is being sold?
Who is the target audience?
How would you describe the style/mood of the advertisement?
With which TV programs would you expect to see this sort of commercial?
